Taking the Next Step

Dance as a vocation and as a profession has truly taken root in the Philippines, especially in our capital Manila.  Here our three established ballet companies  hold their professional seasons of dance annually. This continuous output of works serves as an inspiration and touchstone to the many active conservatory and academic dance schools as well as to our vibrant and dynamic independent dance scene.

With the inauguration of Dance.MNL, a new biannual festival for dance, we take bold steps towards uniting the dance community and expanding the industry of dance.

We celebrate and continue the past efforts of our pioneers and peers that have gifted us with the creative space we now enjoy. Our local dance icons including National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes and noted dance teacher and Gawad CCP awardee Felicitas Radaic are honored in special tributes and performances. Past festivals like the WiFiBody Festival that was also formerly housed at the CCP, serve as an inspiration and model to continue the eternal advocacy that is dance.

Dance is a community effort. We ask our fellow dance lovers to join us as we strengthen and expand the boundaries of our art. Hosted this year by the CCP as part of Ballet Philippines’ 47th season with the partnership of Philippine Ballet Theatre and Ballet Manila and Star and Aliw Theaters, Dance.MNL perhaps displays our new courage and honest camaraderie – to unite what was hitherto divided to go to uncharted lands of maturity and progress.

We are very grateful to our supporters, especially the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Manila Broadcasting Company, our guest performing artists, Dance Intensive teachers, Conference speakers, collaborators, and staff for being one with us in mounting this momentous Festival for our art.

Together, we have made Manila a true home for dance, and an exceptional hub of dance training and production in Asia.  Let us celebrate this physical and psychic space that has allowed our dancers and dance makers to achieve global success and join forces to ensure its further growth with security, temperance, and grace.
